Responsible Gambling course questions
Your state course page has the full training requirements and booking details.
What is the difference between RCG and RSG?
Both terms refer to responsible gambling training. NSW uses Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RCG); other states commonly use Responsible Service of Gambling (RSG). Choose the course for the state where you intend to work.
How much does the RCG course cost?
The RCG course costs $150 in NSW and $90 in SA, and includes one day of face-to-face training.
Does the RCG/RSG certificate expire?
The expiration depends on the state, as rules vary a lot. In Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory, the RSG/RCG certificate doesn’t expire.
NSW and the ACT are the exceptions, both require renewal every 3 to 5 years. Victoria and South Australia have their own refresher expectations too.
Since NSW even uses a different name (RCG rather than RSG) with its own separate certification, always check the requirements for the specific state you’re working in.
How long does the RCG course take?
Course length varies by state, but ours run for 6 hours + breaks in a single day, covering both theory and a practical or scenario-based component.
Is the RCG/RSG course hard?
The RCG/RSG course is not hard, as it’s designed for beginners and doesn’t require any hospitality or gambling experience.
You’ll learn to recognise signs of gambling harm, understand your legal responsibilities, and know how to support patrons responsibly, then complete a knowledge and practical assessment at the end.
Most people pass on their first attempt and our trainers are happy to answer questions throughout to make sure you understood everything.
Can you do your RCG online?
In Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory, you can complete the RSG course fully online at your own pace.
In NSW, the RCG must be done live, either in a classroom or via a real-time virtual class like Zoom, plus a short online assessment afterwards. Victoria and South Australia mostly require in-person training too, so check your state’s rules before booking.
Is my RCG/RSG certificate valid in all states?
Not always, it depends on the state. NSW is the big exception, its RCG only works in NSW, and NSW won’t accept an RSG from anywhere else.
Outside NSW, most states (QLD, WA, NT, SA, VIC, TAS, ACT) use the RSG name and often recognise each other’s, though VIC and a few others still expect their own registration or refresher. Check the destination state’s gambling regulator before assuming your certificate covers you there.
What if I fail the assessment?
If you don’t pass the assessment on your first attempt, you’ll have the opportunity to redo it. Our trainers are there to support you throughout the day, so if you’re struggling with any part of the material, please tell us and ask for help.
We want you to walk out with your certificate, and we’ll do what we can to make sure you’re set up to pass.
Can you train our team?
Email your location, group size and preferred dates. We will discuss suitable training options and confirm availability before booking.
