Frequently Asked Questions
What is a White Card WA?
A White Card is an official certification required to work on construction sites in Western Australia. It proves that you have completed general construction induction training and understand how to identify and manage safety risks in the workplace.
How long is a White Card course in WA?
The WA White Card course takes approximately 6 hours to complete and is delivered in a single day. This covers all theory and practical assessment in one session, so you walk out fully certified the same day.
One important WA-specific rule is that you must be physically located in Western Australia at the time of your assessment, as WorkSafe WA won’t issue a card otherwise.
Is my WA White Card recognised nationally?
Yes, your WA White Card is valid across all Australian states and territories. The White Card is a nationally recognised qualification, meaning you can use it to legally work on construction sites in NSW, QLD, VIC, SA, Tasmania, the NT, and the ACT. You will not need to get a new card every time you cross a border or want to move to another state.
Do I need prior experience?
No prior experience is required to complete the White Card course. It is designed for beginners as well as experienced workers who need the certification.
Will my White Card WA expire?
Your White Card remains valid as long as you stay consistently active in the construction industry. Once training is completed, there’s no mandatory requirement to repeat it. However, if you leave the industry for two consecutive years or longer, the card becomes invalid. At that point you’ll need to redo the full course before getting back on site.
English Requirements
All our short courses are designed to be accessible and practical. Participants are required to have:
- Basic English proficiency: enough to read, understand, and follow written instructions.
- Basic numeracy: the ability to perform simple calculations relevant to the course activities.
- Minimal digital skills: as all our courses are paper-based and do not involve online training.
No advanced English, math, or computer skills are needed. Our courses are suitable for beginners and those returning to learning.
USI Requirements
All participants enrolling in our short courses are required to have a USI. The USI is a national identifier that allows your training records to be securely stored and accessed online.
If you already have a USI, please provide it during enrollment.
If you do not have a USI, you will need to create one before starting the course. Creating a USI is free and can be done online using your personal details, such as your name, date of birth, and email.
The USI ensures that your course completion is officially recorded and accessible for future reference.

Training, Assessment and Certification Process
Start by participating in the required face-to-face White Card training at our Perth venue. This training equips you with the knowledge and practical skills needed for the assessment.
Upon successfully completing your assessment, your assessor will issue an interim certificate on the same day. This temporary document allows you to begin working right away while you wait for your official White Card to arrive.
Once your assessment is complete, we will notify WorkSafe WA on your behalf. Your official White Card will then be processed and mailed to your address, typically arriving within 2 to 3 weeks.
Our trainers are committed to ensuring your success. At all WA locations, they go the extra mile to help, including staying back after sessions to provide personalised assistance if you need help with any part of the course.
