• What is a White Card?

  A White Card is a mandatory safety certification required to work on any construction site in Australia. Its full name is the Construction Induction Card, and it’s based on the nationally recognised unit CPCWHS1001.

  The course covers workplace health and safety laws, how to identify and manage common construction hazards, and your rights and responsibilities on site. You can’t legally set foot on a construction site without one.

• How long is a White Card course?

  The White Card course is designed to be completed in a single day. Most people finish the training and assessment within 6 to 8 hours depending on the delivery format and the pace of the group. There’s no need to come back for a second session. Once you pass the assessment at the end of the day, you’ll receive your certification shortly after.

• Is my White Card recognised nationally?

  Yes. The White Card is based on a nationally recognised unit of competency, which means it’s accepted on construction sites across Australia regardless of which state or territory you completed it in. You don’t need to redo the course if you move interstate.

  That said, always check with your employer or site manager as some worksites may have their own additional induction requirements on top of the White Card.

• Do I need prior experience?

  No prior experience in construction or any related field is required to enrol in a White Card course. The training is designed for people who are completely new to the industry and covers everything from scratch.

  The only requirement is that you can understand and follow instructions in English. There are no formal qualifications needed before you start.

• Will my White Card expire?

  No, your White Card does not have an expiry date. Once you complete the course and receive your certification, it remains valid for life. You won’t need to renew it or redo your training down the track.

  That said, individual construction sites and employers may have their own site-specific induction processes that you’ll need to complete separately, but your White Card itself stays valid indefinitely.

  LLND stands for Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital skills. As part of our training, we assess these skills to make sure you can actively take part in and get the most out of the course. If we identify any support needs during this process, we’ll work with you to find the right solution before training begins. Our goal is to make sure no one is left behind due to language or literacy barriers.
