Frequently Asked Questions
What are the ID requirements?
The ID requirements for the online White Card depend on which state you’re completing the course in.
If you’re in NSW, you must show 100 points of ID to your trainer via camera on the day. All documents must be original and issued in Australia. (Your passport may be from overseas.) Digital licences (e.g. Service NSW app) are accepted. If you’re new to the country (been here less than 6 weeks) or a current high school student, you may be exempt from the 100 points, contact us before your course date and we’ll let you know what to bring instead.
If you’re in QLD, you just need one form of valid photo ID shown to your trainer on the day. This can be a driver’s licence, passport, or similar government-issued photo ID.
For both states, you must be physically located in that state at the time of your session. NSW students also need to have their own PPE on hand for the practical demonstration. This includes a hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, and a hi-vis vest.
What is a White Card?
A White Card is a mandatory safety certification required to work on any construction site in Australia. Its full name is the Construction Induction Card, and it’s based on the nationally recognised unit CPCWHS1001.
The course covers workplace health and safety laws, how to identify and manage common construction hazards, and your rights and responsibilities on site. You can’t legally set foot on a construction site without one.
How long is a White Card course?
The White Card course is designed to be completed in a single day. Most people finish the training in 5 to 6 hours depending on the state. There’s no need to come back for a second session. Once you pass the assessment at the end of the day, you’ll receive your certification shortly after.
Is my White Card recognised nationally?
Yes. The White Card is based on a nationally recognised unit of competency, which means it’s accepted on construction sites across Australia regardless of which state or territory you completed it in. You don’t need to redo the course if you move interstate.
That said, always check with your employer or site manager as some worksites may have their own additional induction requirements on top of the White Card.
Do I need prior experience?
No prior experience in construction or any related field is required to enrol in a White Card course. The training is designed for people who are completely new to the industry and covers everything from scratch.
The only requirement is that you can understand and follow instructions in English. There are no formal qualifications needed before you start.
Will my White Card expire?
Your White Card remains valid as long as you stay consistently active in the construction industry. Once training is completed, there’s no mandatory requirement to repeat it. However, if you leave the industry for two consecutive years or longer, the card becomes invalid. At that point you’ll need to redo the full course before getting back on site.
USI Requirements
All participants enrolling in our short courses are required to have a USI. The USI is a national identifier that allows your training records to be securely stored and accessed online.
If you already have a USI, please provide it during enrollment.
If you do not have a USI, you will need to create one before starting the course. Creating a USI is free and can be done online using your personal details, such as your name, date of birth, and email.
The USI ensures that your course completion is officially recorded and accessible for future reference.

How is the training delivered?
The White Card is delivered online over Zoom. You must be located in the state where you apply (NSW or QLD) to complete the training.
What are the entry requirements?
You have to be able to read simple signs and short texts, write basic answers on forms, and follow verbal instructions during the session. A bit of basic numeracy helps too, like reading the time or simple measurements.
You must be able to complete the course in English without an interpreter. You need to have an intermediate level of English to do this White Card online course in order to follow along, understand safety instructions, and communicate with your trainer. If English is your second language, that’s completely fine. Just make sure you’re comfortable enough to participate and take in the safety content.
If you feel you do not meet these requirements, please book a face-to-face White Card course instead.
What assessments will I need to complete?
To successfully complete the course, you will be required to complete multiple-choice and short-answer written questions, fill in a short form, and demonstrate the correct use of PPE.
Certification and Licence Requirements
You will receive a Statement of Attainment by email on the same day you complete the course for CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry.
You will also receive a Statement of Training (SOT), which acts as your temporary White Card for 60 days. It is accepted Australia-wide as evidence that you have completed the required training and can be used immediately.
Your physical White Card will be posted by Service NSW or Queensland Government services and generally arrives within 2–4 weeks. If you have not received it after four weeks, please contact Service NSW on 13 10 50 or Queensland Government services on 13 74 68.
What are the course fees and what do I do if I want to cancel my enrolment and get a refund?
The course fee starts from $120. This includes all learning material and resources to complete the course. All fees must be paid in full before attending the course.
Refunds, booking changes and rebooking:
At National Courses we keep it simple. You can change, refund or cancel your booking at anytime. No extra charges. Our bookings are 100% flexible.Â
If we ever cancel a course, you will be given the option to rebook or obtain a full refund.
What do I do if I need training or other support to complete the course?
The online White Card course is delivered via live Zoom and is only suitable for people who don’t need additional support. If you need help with reading, writing, numeracy, or any other learning support, please book a face-to-face course instead where our trainers can assist you directly.
Training, Assessment and Certification Process
Start by completing your White Card training either online via Zoom or in person at one of our venues across NSW and Queensland. Both options cover the same content and equip you with the knowledge and practical skills needed for the assessment.
Upon successfully completing your assessment, your assessor will issue an interim certificate on the same day. This temporary document allows you to begin working right away while you wait for your official White Card to arrive.
Once your assessment is complete, we will notify SafeWork NSW or WorkSafe QLD on your behalf. Your official White Card will then be processed and mailed to your address, typically arriving within 2 to 3 weeks.
Our trainers are committed to your success. They go the extra mile to help, including staying back after class to provide personalised assistance if you need help with any part of the course.
