Attendance and assessment
One classroom day. Current sessions run 8:30 am–3:30 pm. Full attendance and successful assessment are required, including the separate Liquor & Gaming NSW online assessment.
USI
You need a valid USI for your Statement of Attainment, unless exempt. Create or find yours at usi.gov.au.
Certification
Receive your Statement of Attainment after successful course completion. The NSW RCG interim certificate follows the required online assessment and is valid for 90 days.

What will I learn in the RCG NSW course?
Learn to recognise gambling harm, support patrons, promote responsible gambling and handle difficult situations. Training uses practical scenarios and trainer-led discussions.
Does the RCG NSW certificate expire?
In NSW, your RCG competency card is valid for 5 years from when you first passed. Before it expires, you renew online through an L&GNSW refresher course, about 45 minutes, which extends your card for another 5 years.
There’s a 28-day grace period after expiry to renew online. Miss that window and you’ll need to redo the full face-to-face or live virtual course instead.
How long does the RCG NSW course take?
NSW RCG training runs for 6 + breaks in one sitting. That includes a break plus a theory and practical component. After the course, you complete the assessment, which takes about 20 to 30 minutes, and you need to complete and pass it before your interim certificate is issued.
Is the RCG course hard?
The NSW RCG course isn’t hard. It’s built for beginners, no gambling or hospitality background needed, and covers practical, real-world scenarios like spotting gambling harm and knowing your legal obligations under NSW law.
You’ll be assessed through a mix of knowledge checks and practical role-play during the day, then a short online quiz afterwards. Most people pass comfortably, and trainers are there to help if anything’s unclear.
Can you do your RCG online?
NSW requires the RCG to be delivered live, either face to face in a classroom or through a real-time virtual class over Zoom, so you’re interacting with an actual trainer throughout the day.
After that, you’ll complete a short online assessment set by Liquor & Gaming NSW before you get your interim certificate. There’s currently no fully online option available anywhere in NSW.
Is there an online assessment?
Yes. After the course, Liquor & Gaming NSW sends a separate online assessment by email or SMS. Pass it before your interim certificate can be issued. See the official RCG assessment guidance.
Do I need prior experience?
No prior gaming industry experience is required. You need sufficient English and learning skills to follow the training and complete the assessments. Contact us before booking if you need support.
Is my RCG NSW certificate valid in all states?
Your NSW RCG is only valid in New South Wales, it isn’t recognised anywhere else in Australia.
The reverse is true too: NSW won’t accept an RSG certificate from another state, even though it covers the same content.
Moving interstate for gambling-related work means completing that state’s own RSG course from scratch, and moving to NSW means sitting the full NSW RCG course, since there’s no bridging option for gambling certifications like there is for RSA.
