What is a White Card?
A White Card is a certificate that shows you have completed general construction induction training. The course covers construction hazards, safe work practices and responding to incidents. You cannot work in construction without an Australian White Card.
Which White Card course should I choose?
Choose the state where you plan to attend training. We currently offer classroom courses in NSW, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia. Please note that you must be located in the state where you are planning to join the White Card course, and that applies for online bookings too.

Can I complete my White Card online?
Live virtual classroom training is available for eligible NSW and QLD students. It is instructor-led over Zoom. Read the online course page for location, identification, PPE and equipment requirements.
How much does a White Card course cost?
Classroom courses start from $89 in South Australia and $99 in NSW, Queensland and Victoria. Live online courses start from $99. Confirm the price for your chosen session on its course page before booking.
How long does training take?
Courses are generally completed in one day. Training hours and breaks vary by state and delivery option; check your selected course page for the exact duration.
Do White Cards expire?
Once you complete your White Card course and pass the assessment, the card is valid for life, with no renewal needed.
The only exception is if you’ve been out of the construction industry for 2 years or more. In that case, you must join a refresher course before you head back on site. Outside that, your original card still counts everywhere in Australia, no matter which state issued it.
Are White Cards valid everywhere in Australia?
The White Card (General Construction Induction Card) is recognised nationally, so a card issued in one state or territory is valid on construction sites right across Australia.
You don’t need to redo the course if you move interstate or work on a site in a different state. Each state’s WHS regulator issues its own version, but they all carry the same national training standard and are mutually recognised everywhere.
Can I do the White Card on a Student Visa?
Your visa status doesn’t affect eligibility, students, permanent residents, temporary residents and citizens can all enrol. The main requirement is an English level above 4 out of 10 for reading, writing and understanding instructions, since the course and assessment run in English.
You’ll also need a Unique Student Identifier (USI), which is free and takes about 5 minutes to set up at usi.gov.au if you don’t already have one.
Can I do the White Card on a Working Holiday Visa?
Working Holiday Visa (subclass 417/462) holders can enrol just like anyone else, there’s no visa restriction on White Card training.
It’s actually a popular option for WHV travellers picking up construction or labouring work while in Australia. You’ll need to meet the same requirements as everyone: an English level above 4 out of 10, and a free USI from usi.gov.au. Bring photo ID on the day.

When will I receive my certificate and White Card?
You must successfully complete the required training and assessment. Certificate and card issue arrangements vary by state, so check your chosen course page for the process and timing.
